[ORP : Hatching Event] - Come Aboard and Bring Your Eggies!

Beneath the snow, the Bucks nuzzle their eggs, Does bring them food, gems, fetishes and treasures. The bits and pieces are hard to find this time of year but the Does will find what they can and the Bucks will decide which to set with which egg. Together they build little hoards for their offspring. The seeds of future growth...

As the sun warms the earth and the heat of spring begins to thrum in the roots of the trees that roof the lairs and warrens, the eggs that are nestled snug against them with a shard of their gemkin and the rest of their starter hoards begin to quicken inside. Soon they will hatch and the entire forest will be alive with little ones just in time for the snows to begin to melt!

While the wild Ti'rhyn take care of their own, those bonded with Keepers find themselves in a unique situation. Their two-leggers have been asked to bring their eggs to the lab aboard the Starship for the Hatching Ceremonies there. In this way the LDRP will be able to track the new gemkin that have been bred this season and compare data from this season with the last. each keeper has received an invitation and accompanying information pamphlet.


What this means; Chatter as you wish in the thread with the understanding that it will be assumed you are in The Officers Lounge as you do!

A note on Keeper RP - Because the Starship travels quite widely you do not have to be a race that is native to GIA and humans are amongst those in the Known Systems so no worries being your own self! Just know that Earth is not known of as earth in this 'time/space continuum'.

***~Setting~***

The Viridian 5 - Lepus Draconis Research Project Facility StarShip

Near to the grove where the Mushroom Bazaar is held in late summer is a clearing that bears scorch marks along the edge of the foliage.
This is the location of the landing pad of The Viridian 5, Lepus Draconis Research Project\'s Facility Starship. It is a later model and not particularly shiny on the outside... perhaps it is nicer within?

Technicians, Engineers and Field Researchers move about the clearing; cleaning equipment, performing maintenance on the starship and securing the area. The Boarding Hatch is open now and an (armed?) Lab Technician is standing to one side, allowing Keepers with eggs to board...

On Board the Starship

The interior of The Viridian 5 is quite a bit nicer than the exterior though there is still an air of functionality that overshadows the few ornamental aspects of the ship\'s aesthetics. Function obviously comes before fashion for the Lepus Draconis Research Project. Or, perhaps, they simply don\'t have the funding to be cavalier about the state of their equipment.

From the Boarding Dock a set of stairs leads upwards toward a long hallway, doors to each side of it, set at even intervals, mark the private bunks for crew and passengers. Straight ahead a much shorter hall opens to three different areas; The Bio-Gardens, The Engine Room and The Officer\'s Lounge. Only the last of those three is lacking a \'CREW ONLY!\' sign...

The Officer's Lounge : OPEN
This room is the main setting for the thread.

A round room with several couches, chairs and low tables set along the wall. Various refreshments adorn platters upon the tables in a wide enough range to provide for Keepers of most races in the Known Systems and for the Ti\'rhyn as well.

In the center of the room, pillows and toys are scattered about what is obviously a play area for hatchlings and kids. Perches and pillows are also installed intermittently between the couches and chairs along the wall for the adults.

Aside from the door that leads out to the Boarding Dock this room bears one other door which leads into the Treasure Trove.


On the display screen in the Officer's Lounge the following information can be viewed:

This room contains the items used during the ceremonies.

Four tables are set up in this room, each bearing a different variety of items. See the post below!
Two doors lead out of this room in opposite directions; one to the Officer\'s Lounge and one to the Hatching Hall.


A small room which has been adorned to look like an underground cavern or burrow. The walls are draped with cloth in the colours of earth and stone while trailing strands of yarn and other materials manage to create a convincing appearance of roots and fungus. The floor is blanketed in thick luxurious rugs aside from the centre where a circle of stones has been placed around a large shallow brazier of copper. Coals within the brazier glow gently letting off a subtle welcoming warmth...

When a Hatching Ceremony Round is opened, the first three Keepers to post a link to their egg and a viable combination of items will be sent through into the Hatching Hall... Read as; claim slots

( 1 silk cushion, 1 gemkin stone & 1 fetish or treasure)

Please note that the items provided as fetish by the Lab are nowhere near as effective as those found by the Ti'rhyn themselves and thus the chances they will take effect are very small. You may also chose not to include any fetish or treasure items should you so wish.

The object here is to choose a cushion that best compliments your egg's gemkin and to choose the correct gemkin stone!
The fetishes and treasures are mostly just for fun and to throw a bit of random inspiration in there on the off chance they affect the hatchling*.
Remember, the first three to post a viable combination will get these slots!


*fetishes/treasures applied at this point don't work anywhere near as well as those the rhyn gather for themselves once they begin to evolve.

As the keepers began to come aboard, Jessica nervously tapped the side of her info-plate with her stylus and watched them enter the officer's lounge. Today was a big day for her... it was the first day that her mother, Professor (as everyone called her), was allowing her to head up a research event with the Keepers. Of course jessi was nervous for more reasons than that, for one, she didn't think all of the Keepers would be happy to see her since she had, some time back, tired to steal a Ti'rhyn Kid.

Funnily enough the kid (a doe) had chosen to stay with her and now she didn't know what she'd do without Dali.

The lab attendant was dutifully telling each Keeper as they entered that the ceremonies would start soon and to make themselves comfortable as they waited, so Jessica didn't really have anything to do. This did not help her state of nervousness in the least.

Dali, for her part, noticed her two-legger's nervous energy and decided perhaps it would be best to stop running in circles around her. The young labradorite gemkin'd doe hopped up to rub her nose against Jessica's knee and stared up at her with big cyan and pink eyes. Dali was rewarded with a distracted smile and a delicate hand reaching down to ruffle the fur on her head. A satisfactory response indeed!

Lectral had spent most of the morning gathering eggs. Not from chickens, and not for her easter celebrations, but all the lovely eggs her ti'rhyn coterie had brought home a short while after breeding season. While only a few of her friends had actually bred, they had accumulated a large number of eggs! And of course, the males who were keeping them did not feel like keeping their nests too near any other male's, so when it came time to gather the eggs for the hatching ceremonies on the Viridian 5, Lectral had to check through the entire warren, to ensure she didn't miss any eggs. Some of the males were downright sneaky when it came to keeping their eggs safe!

One of the fathers, Ichtevat, had apparently decided that he wished to join her for the hatching, and on the trip to the ship, alternated between riding on her shoulder and flying over her head. A few of the other males were tagging along, though Lectral wasn't sure if they would all follow her into the ship. Several had been very shy of strangers, and one or two seemed very opposed to "man-made" buildings. None of the does seemed particularly concerned about the pending hatchings, though Lectral did suspect Amylyrix, the lovely Iolite doe, would have insisted Ichtevat attend.

Lectral could occasionally read the winged male; he was one of the variety who could communicate with his keeper, in a limited fashion. She knew he had come of his own interest in his offspring, though she did suspect he had been asked to watch over the others as well, for those who were not braving the ship.

When they arrived at the ship, Ichtevat was back to his perch on Lectral's furry shoulder. She shifted her rather large basket of eggs to one hand, and reached up to scratch behind one of his ears. He seemed to enjoy the touch, as usual, and leaned into the scratch. "Well, Ichtevat, are we ready to deal with a bunch of new hatchlings? Give Qerinaal some playmates?" The ti'rhyn bobbed his head and chirred a soft sound he usually used when he agreed.

Returning her hand to the handle, she glanced in at the eggs, making sure they hadn't been jostled by the walk, and headed inside. One of the lab assistants directed her to the Officer's Lounge, which was right where she remembered it, and she hoped that with all the new keepers that had been coming in recently, there would be enough room for everyone. She found a comfortable chair, and sat down to wait.

Jessica took a turn around the tables in the next room, making sure everything was where it was supposed to be. While she wasn't entirely cetain why her mother had this system set up so, she knew there was no room for error, so everything had to be perfect.

Once she was satisfied, she moved back in to the Officers lounge and addressed the Keepers present there;

"All right, if I can have everyone's attention, please?" her voice quavered a little with nervousness but soon smoothed out as she set her fingers tightly around her info-plate reminded herself that this was just like any lab experiment, it required focus and intent. "We are about to begin with the first hatchings." She paused...

"There is only room for three Keepers and their eggs in the hatching Hall at one time so please come through in an orderly fashion. Once you have selected the items you wish to bring in as your egg's starter hoard I will come around and check them. The first three to have a succesful combination will go through and wait in the Hall until their eggs hatch."

"Please be patient and considerate of others..." she added this last bit almost as an after thought before stepping aside from the open door to the Treasure Trove.

Gail dug through her locker yet again hoping beyond hope to find what she knew wasn't there. Hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, scrunchies, basic make-up supplies, facial cleanser and moisturizer, a few pairs of pants, some shirts, socks, undergarments. In other words, exactly what should be there and NOT what she was looking for.

Leaning back she considered. Well, if push came to shove she could knot one of her t-shirts and use it as a bag.

Her eyes wondered around the ranger station where she bunked. Surely somewhere there was a basket or something she could use to carry all those eggs. Several of her precious coterie were milling about just outside the station and the pile of eggs they guarded astounded her. Eight eggs! And she suspected that was not all of the eggs they had produced as some of them were males guarding eggs that none of her females showed the slightest interest in. Even aloof Amunet could not help but betray her interest in the eggs Teletz stood protectively over. And Maitiu kept casting worried looks in the general direction where Leonite's coterie gathered. Some of the other bucks cast longing looks out into the woods, but she wasn't sure whose coterie they were considering for more than one lived in those directions.

Shaking herself back to the present and the problem at hand, Gail got up off the floor and moved over to the kitchen area. Perhaps she would find a basket there that was not already in use.

Finally. Pushed back on a top shelf she found a willow basket that was dusty and cobwebby and seemed to be just the right size. Pulling it out she took it out to wash it off and find some leaves or grass or something to line it, making a soft cushion for the priceless load it would be carrying.

No sooner had Gail gotten the basket cleaned up and begun lining it with some of last years grass than she had a furry head pushing in and adding to more dried grasses. Followed by another. Gail did not have to gather another blade. Every single 'rhyn had brought some contribution to the basket until the girl began to question if there would be room for the eggs.

Chuckling, she said, "Okay, okay. Let's get those eggs in here and head off for the ship."

Everyone hopped and milled around with excitement as the eggs were gently placed one by one into the basket until only one was left. Derryth hovered over the pretty swirled egg and eyed the loaded basket with suspicion, not sure he wanted his little one in there, while Dmitry stood back and huffed impatiently.

Looking around at the other ti'rhyn, Dmitry sent First time father. Several of the others nodded wisely, remembering the first time they had eggs to hatch. Some could see where this might be harder since they were depending on a two-legger. On the other hand, Derryth had known nothing but life with Gail. Yet again, he was also and early evolver. The reality was he should still be a kid.

Gail understood that while the ti'rhyn buck was an adult in size and function he still in many ways was a kid. She spoke to him softly, crooning to him reassurances until finally he nosed his egg closer to his chosen two-legger.

All the eggs present and accounted for in the basket, Gail arose and made her way to the space ship and the officer's lounge. Upon spying Jessica, Gail smiled, walked over to the girl and gave her a hug, careful not to upset the apple cart, er, egg basket. "How are you? You are looking good." Noticing the dusty colored kid at the lab-coated girl's feet, Gail continued, "Ah, your little one is looking healthy and lively. I bet she is keeping you hopping."

As she finished her announcement, Jessica saw one of the Keepers (Gail) who had been present during her shameful past encounter approach and her tummy did a flip flop. The young woman was very nice however, and Jessi found herself smiling back amiably and nodding at Dali as well. "Oh yes, she's very excitable which, has taken some getting used to but she's also very good company." Something in the way she spoke made it apparent that she was not accustomed to finding anyone good company, let alone a furry critter but that she was not displeased by this unique relationship.

"They are indeed great company," Gail replied as she took in the room and Jessica's notepad. "Oh, have things begun?" she asked. "And you get to be in charge? Oh, Jess, that's wonderful."

Gail excused herself then made her way over to settle the basket with the ti'rhyn that had chosen to accompany her into the lounge, then made her way into the room with the cushions, etc. soon to present to Jessica...

Lectral didn't have too long to wait, as the young scientist, Jessica, she thought the name was, announced the first round open only a few minutes after the keeper had seated herself. "Which egg should we begin with?" she asked Ichtevat, as she stood to head over to the tables.

The obsidian buck peered into the basket, and sniffed over the eggs. Lectral was not surprised in the slightest, when he chose one of his own offspring. He nudged the dark opal egg, and Lectral lifted it gently from the basket. "Alright, this one it is! Will you help me with the hoard selection, or am I on my own?"

Ichtevat tilted his head, considering, but apparently decided to guard the eggs. Lectral carefully studied the egg, examined the items on the tables, made her selections, then returned to her seat with the items arrayed beside her, the egg resting on the cushion, to await the scientist's decision. As she did, she noticed another keeper enter the lounge, and made a note to greet her, as soon asshe was no longer busy at the tables.

Fae woke early and headed out to the warren to see the coterie, from there she planned to go to the birthing lairs and find what eggs she could to take to the hatching ceremony.

She was surprised to find Enoch and Rhapsody with their eggs right by the warren, and Isadyn and Tae'lyn waiting nearby. Carefully she picked up Enoch and Rhapsody's eggs and was surprised to see Pyrope bringing a single egg to her. She caressed the doe's ears and gently placed the egg in with the others. She then moved toward Isadyn and Tae'lyn, who led her to their eggs. Myrth and Abrazitos greeted her and brought their eggs to their Keeper. Once those eggs were in the basket, Fae stretched and turned to make the walk to the Viridian 5. She wasn't much surprised by the group of 'rhyn that followed her, mostly protective fathers, but she noticed that Isadyn and Tae'lyn lagged behind.

Fae was more than familiar with the ceremony and was pleased to see the tables already set up. Quietly she moved toward the table, looking over the requisite items, and carefully choosing a few.

She noticed Gail and Jessie nearby. She smiled at the first and gave the latter a nod. She noticed the girl's nervousness and a gave Jessie a gentle smile. "Are we ready for the excitement?"

Jessica looked over Gail's selection and bit her lip, "I'm sorry, you'll need to select both a different stone and a different pillow."

Jessica looked over Lectral's selection and tilted her head, "You have the correct stone but you'll need to pick a different cushion."

Jessica took a look at Fae's selection, blinked, checked her info-plate and then the selection again and turned wide eyes to the falipae Keeper, "Well you must have a gift, that's perfect! Please proceed to the Hatching Hall."

"I thought I might; I was torn between two!" Lectral returns to the table and exchanges the previous cushion, then rearranges the set of items.

Jessica looks over Lectral's selection again and grimaces, "I'm sorry that is still not the correct cushion."

With a grin Gail said, "no problem. This is fun." She turned and headed back to the tables after casting a glance at the 'rhyn gathered about their basket of eggs.

Jessi smiled with relief as Gail was undaunted by the initial failure. She looked over her new selection happily, "That is the correct stone but still not the right cushion, although, it's close!"

Fae paused for a moment, feeling the connection between egg and stone. Who would have ever thought that her families affinity would come in handy for such a thing. She nodded to Jessie, "I can stay, should the others need help in their choosing. My family has an affinity for stones, and I'd be very happy to help."

"Well, that's what I get for having been so good at this last season!" Lectral returns to the table and exchanges the previous cushion, then rearranges the set of items, again.

Jessica laughed softly at the joke (at least she hoped it was a joke) and looked over Lectral's selection again as Fae stood near by. "Oh there you go! It's all correct, you may proceed through to the Hatching Hall."

She nodded to Fae then and said, "If you like, though, everyone seems to be picking up on it rather quick even if they don't get it the first time."

"Well, I wouldn't have thought it would be this one, but let's give it a try," Gail said with an irrepressible grin upon her return.

Jessica looked over Gails next selection and arched a brow to Fae, "Well maybe you could help her out... I am sorry ma'am but you still do not have the correct cushion." She sounded truly regretful.

"Gail, try this one." Fae said softly, handing her a cushion.
